“I heard I was in town”, Jimmy Buffet said as he took the stage in front of thousands of fans packed together on Duval Street in Key West Friday afternoon. The 20th annual “Meeting of The Minds”, an official gathering of the unofficial Buffet-loving “Parrot Heads” group, brought 3,500 fervent fans to the island on a pilgrimage. The Parrot Heads’ “Party with a Purpose” motto has generated millions in charitable donations and volunteer hours world wide from its over 200 international organizations. Those who attended the convention this year were rewarded with perfect weather and a free Buffet show.
Jimmy played 15 songs: “The Great Filling Station Holdup”, “Makin’ Music For Money”, “Pencil Thin Mustache”, “Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit”, “Tin Cup Chalice”, “Woman Goin’ Crazy On Caroline Street”, “They Don’t Dance Like Carmen No More”, “Why Don’t We Get Drunk and Screw”, “Life Is Just A Tire Swing”, “Cuban Crime Of Passion”, “Migration”, “Nautical Wheelers”, “A Pirate Looks At Forty”, “Last Mango In Paris”, and “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” for an encore.
